I disliked going to Malaysia when I was in my teens, because I hate the feeling of not knowing how to read the words I see on signs along the way.

The other day I was on the bus. It stopped in front of a big temple and a group of old people chatting in dialect slowly boarded. I looked at the road signs outside and the memory of disliking Malaysia suddenly came to me. I thought there are many people among us who have to live with being unable to read or understand most of the English signs and words we take for granted.

I think the inability to understand the local language has its beauty when travelling. But it's a bit sad if it's something people have to live with, for decades or the rest of their lives, in their home country. It's an invisible handicap and I applaud people who do their best in spite.
